Stories, photos, and records connected to the name Zierenberg.
This site is a living collection of ancestors, relatives, and historical figures connected to the great name of Zierenberg. It exists so our children and grandchildren can see faces, read stories, and understand where they come from.
Our current research traces our direct line back to the late 1600s. Much of that work began after World War II, when family members gathered documents, photographs, and memories before they were lost.
I welcome both family and visitors. If you would like to contribute stories, photos, letters, or other documents, please use the contact form on this site. Every piece of information helps fill in another part of our story.

After World War II, our uncle, (Oberst) Wilhelm Zierenberg, began gathering information about our ancestors.
He contacted relatives, searched records, and assembled a hand-drawn pedigree chart. Because of his work, we know our Zierenberg line all the way back to 1683.
This chart continues to guide current research and provides a framework for the stories and biographies being added to this site.
The name Zierenberg is also shared by a small town in the district of Kassel, in the German state of Hesse. It sits in the Habichtswald hill country, near the Habichtswald Nature Park, not far from the city of Kassel.
Today the town has a population of roughly 6,500–6,800 people. It includes several surrounding villages and is known for its timber-framed houses, historic marketplace, and nearby hiking routes.
The climate is temperate. Summers are mild and partly cloudy, while winters are cold and often snowy, with misty hills and forested slopes around the town.
We do not have evidence that our ancestors came from this town. However, it is a beautiful village with a shared name, and it gives a meaningful setting for our family story.
Modern visits to Germany help connect the old records and photographs with real places. Walking the streets, visiting cemeteries, and looking out over the countryside brings the stories to life in a way that documents alone cannot.
The photo here shows a view overlooking the town of Zierenberg in Hesse. Even if our family line did not originate here, it remains a special place to visit and reflect on the name we share.
This site is also a collection of ancestors and historical figures connected to the great name of Zierenberg. Every letter, photo, memory, or small detail can help future generations understand who they are and where they come from.
